Chandigarh, Jan 26- Chief Minister Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda today offered to donate his eyes so that the blind may see the light of the day. The Chief Minister made this offer while launching two ambitious schemes namely “Nehru Drishti Yojna” and “Indira Bal Swasthya Yojna” on the occasion of Republic Day celebrations in Jhajjar today.
Former Speaker, Haryana Vidhan Sabha, Dr. Raghbir Singh Kadiyan gave away a certificate to the Chief Minister to mark his offer of eye donation. This novel gesture of the Chief Minister to donate his eyes would inspire the people to come forward for donating their eyes.
The “Nehru Drishti Yojna” aimed at controlling blindness. and it has been linked with phone number 102 of “Swasthya Vahan Sewa”, the referred transport scheme. By dialing this three digit phone number one can call a team of doctors to make donation of eyes of one’s relative or friend.
The State requires about 3200 cornea whereas only about half of this requirement is being met. To make it convenient for the relatives of eye donors, 20 eye collection centres are being established. An eye bank is already functional at PGIMS, Rohtak whereas two new eye banks will be established at Bhiwani and Panchkula. This scheme will help all those patients who are suffering from blindness due to unavailability of cornea and fill up the gap in demand and supply. In addition, the scheme will also help motivating people for eye donation, he added.
The “Indira Bal Swasthya Yojana” (IBSY) would be a novel concept of providing preventive and curative health care to all children from the day of birth up to 18 years of age. The scheme would focus on timely detection and treatment of deficiency disease and disability in children. It would be implemented in four phases and cover more than 40 lakh children. In the first phase, 14 lakh primary school students would be covered. Health cards would be made for all the children at Anganwaris and schools.
