The Haryana Government has decided to replace paper based ration cards with smart cards in the state at a cost of Rs. 137.63 crore.While disclosing this here today, the Food and Supplies Minister, Mr. Mahender Partap Singh said that the paper based ration cards of about 54 lakh eligible families would be replaced with smart cards in a phased manner.He said that in the first phase, three districts would be covered from April 1 to July 31, 2010 and in second and third phase, six districts each would be covered. The second phase would start from July 1 and last upto October 31, 2010 and third phase would start from first October, 2010 and last upto January 15, 2011. The fourth and final phase would start from January 15, 2011 and last upto March 31, 2011. Four districts of the State would be covered under this phase.
